What airlines allow pets in cabins on International flights?

When specific rules and regulations are followed and an additional cost is paid, many airlines let pets travel in the cabin. Whether you can bring your pet on a flight in the passenger cabin is up to each airline. Pets are allowed in the cabin on airlines that permit it, however the pet container you bring must fit beneath the seat and be classified carry-on luggage. If a pet sits in a carrier the whole journey, they are allowed to travel in the cabin as carry-on luggage. Only tiny dogs and cats are permitted on most airlines that let pets in the cabin. Ferrets and rabbits, among other pets, are permitted on certain flights in addition to birds.

Each airline has its own policies on how many pets passengers may carry into the cabin. While some airlines allow numerous pets on the same flight as long as they are of the same species, most only allow one pet per person. For instance, JetBlue permits people to check in with two pets simultaneously, provided that each creature is in its own carrier. However, there is an additional cost for a second seat. Similarly, if two people book adjacent tickets on an Alaska Airlines trip, they are permitted to carry up to two pet carriers inside the cabin.

Every airline has a cap on the number of pets that can travel in the cabin on each flight; the cap is based on the kind of aircraft, the destination, and the airline that is running the flight. Getting reservations for your pet as soon as you book your travel is highly advised, ideally 24 hours before to the departure of your journey, as there is limited room in the aircraft for dogs.

Requirement for the Pet Carrier

• Carrier size must meet all airline requirements so that pet can sit, stand, and lay down. Pets must be small enough to slide neatly inside the closed carrier with a zipper.

• The under seat measurements of any aircraft used for your trip cannot be exceeded by non-collapsible kennels. Verify the maximum dimensions by contacting reservations.

Expandable kennels with soft sides are recommended because they can be a little bit bigger, but they still need to fit under the seat without being unduly collapsed. They should have ventilation using nylon mesh on three or more sides, be repellent to water, soft, and secure.

Air Europa

  • Allowed pets: On short- and medium-haul flights, the cabin is open to dogs, cats, fish, aquarium turtles, small birds, and some rodents.

  • Destination restrictions: Only dogs and cats may be transported on long-haul flights, with the exception of the business cabin, where no animals of any sort may be transported.

  • Pets: If all three of the animals belong to the same species and do not surpass the allowable weight or dimension restrictions, up to three pets may be kept in a single container.

  • Pet weight maximum: 8 kg; pet and carrier weight maximum: 10 kg.

American Airlines

  • Pets allowed: The cabin is pet-friendly, but only allows cats and dogs. Pets are allowed on most flights for up to 12 hours, as well as flights to and from specific destinations.

  • Pets are permitted up to one carrier per carry-on bag.

  • Restrictions on travel: Transatlantic flights do not allow the carriage of pets. Due to a shortage of under seat storage space, pets are not allowed in First or Business on some planes.

  • Restrictions on destinations: Bringing a pet on a plane to or from Hawaii, Jamaica, and several South American countries is not permitted. There are more limits on destinations.

  • Maximum combined weight of pet and carrier: 20 pounds, or 9.07 kg.

  • Pets are charged $125 each way, with an extra $125 for flights within the United States that include a voluntary layover of longer than four hours.

Delta Airlines

  • Only domestic birds, dogs, and cats are permitted pets in the cottage. Except for flights to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands,  and Guam, household birds are only allowed on domestic flights within the United States.

  • Restrictions on destinations: Certain flights to and from Australia, Hawaii, and the United Kingdom are not allowed to bring pets in the cabin.

  • Pet fees: $95 USD/CAD for one-way travel inside Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands; $200 USD/CAD/EUR for travel abroad.

  • Pets: Every passenger may only have one pet carrier. Pets are allowed in carriers only, with the following exclusions: If a female cat or dog's litter has reached 8 weeks and 6 months old, she can go anywhere with her unweaned litter. The number of animals in a litter is unlimited as long as they can all fit inside the kennel safely. Two pets of the same breed and size that are around the ages of 8 weeks and 6 months may travel together in a single kennel as long as they are compatible and tiny enough to fit inside.

Before taking off your Flight

The majority of US airports offer separate places outside the terminal for animals and pets to rest after security. Pet parks featuring actual grass, fake fire hydrants, and open spaces for play are distinct from the little bits of artificial grass that make up many pet relief zones tucked away in obscure books of airports. Examples of airport restrooms with artificial grass include the Pet Relief Room at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, which has two sections of real and fake grass, as well as a sprinkler system that removes waste into drains beneath the grass. At Detroit International Airport, the dog restroom has two patches of real grass and a sprinkler system.
